This week, the Histon Hornets U10 (blue) team welcomed the Cherry Hinton Lions (U10) to the Histon & Impington recreation ground. On a perfect early Autumn morning, both teams were ready and raring to go – like excited flat-capped Whippets ready for the chase.
Right from the first whistle, both teams stitched great attacking passing moves together. Cumulating in lots of thrilling goal mouth action. Cherry Hinton made the most of the early exchanges, however, it was the Histon boys that saw the first half out with a two goal lead.
The second half started with most of the first half teams being substituted, to keep both teams’ energy levels high whilst allowing all of the boys the chance for a good run out. As the game progressed, Histon Hornets continued to impress, adding another four great goals to their tally.
However, toward the last quarter of the game Cherry Hinton slipped into another gear as the Histon boys tired, defending deeper and deeper. As a result, Cherry Hinton scored three quick goals, showcasing their great stamina and belief to get back into the game.
At the final whistle the home team ran out the worthy winners in the end. More importantly, and what is clear from the performance from both teams, is the collective will to play as a team and for each other. A great credit to both teams, coaches and managers for helping the boys gel together as a cohesive unit and play the game with fabulous spirit.
